Railroads have a a long standing history of being solid, stable investment pieces. Today's prices may seem high to collectors who were buying in the 1980's or 1990's but remember - appreciation is normal and the cheapest time to buy a fine railroad watch is now! Once a watch sells for a "new" higher price, the precedent is set and that new price becomes the "base" price. A group of 5 railroad watches - a 992, 992B, 60-hr. Bunn, 950B and a Waltham 16 Size,, 23 jewel, up/down would cost about $1,350.00 in 1980, $2,250.00 in 1990 and $3,500.00 now. Using the same rate of increase, this suggests that the 5 watches will cost $5,650.00 in 2010 and $9,000.00 or more in the year 2020.
